Reporting on customer locations

In this article, we will look at how to report on customer locations. Exploring the geographic locations of your customers allows you to understand your customer database better and know where your customers are coming from, and you can then use this information to help shape your targeted marketing strategy. To explore customer locations in Ticketsolve, you can use Your Reports to look at your whole customer database, or even just a small segment of event attendees, to explore their country, region, city or postcode.

In this article, we'll look at exploring Country and Region, which is useful for organisations both in the UK and Ireland. If you're a UK organisation, you might prefer to check out our other geography guide on how to run a postcode analysis report.

Create a Your Report

1. First, go to Your Reports and click Add New report.

2. Name your report.

3. Add to a folder.

4. Choose Line Item Facts for the report type.

5. Add an optional description

6. Click Save.

Add your desired Filters

In this example, we are going to look at all customers from Ireland who went to see Aladdin. So, we need to add our filters to bring in only customers who booked tickets for this show and are in Ireland.

1. Click Add New to add a new Filter.

2. Search for "saw shows".

3. Include the shows you want to report on.

4. Click Save.

5. Select the dropdown that contains or that exactly matches

Explore the Geography Reporting View

1. Click on Geography in Reporting views.

2. You can now go explore the different tabs, like by Region, by City Town, or by Postcode. In this example, we are going to the by Region tab. Here you will see a list of the different Regions, along with the quantity of tickets, revenue, and number of unique customers.

3. We'd now recommend clicking to Download the CSV as you'll likely need to clean the data up a bit, as there will probably be some duplicates with different spellings due to user input. For example below, we can see we have customers from Antrim and Co. Antrim which you can combine in the CSV to get the true data.

 Ticketsolve Tip

The data you get from reports on location is only as good as the data collected in customer records. So, if reporting on customer geography is important for your organisation, make sure to have your Box Office staff take detailed, correct information and that you have the fields you need set as 'required' for both online booking and Box Office orders.

You can now use this location data to see information like where the highest number of customers are located, which areas are bringing in the most revenue, and which regions are creating the most ticket sales.
