Guide to setting up GTM and GA4

Google Analytics is a free web analytics service offered by Google that tracks and reports website traffic. It is an essential tool for website owners, marketers, and businesses to understand the behaviour of their audience and measure the effectiveness of their marketing efforts.

This article contains everything you need to know about setting up Google Analytics 4 (GA4) and integrating it with your Ticketsolve account. You can read our step-by-step articles, watch a recording of our GA4 Ticketsolve Academy, or explore the GA4 Reporting Kit.

How to set up Google Analytics 4 with Ticketsolve

To set up Google Analytics 4 and integrate it with your Ticketsolve account follow the steps below. You can also watch this video walk-through with Nick (we'd recommend following the articles alongside the video).

First, in Google Analytics:

1. Set up a GA4 property.

2. If you are switching from a UA property it is recommended to toggle off the auto-migration that Google suggests so you can set up GA4 from scratch properly.

Next, in Google Tag Manager:

3. Create or update your Google Tag Manager (GTM) account with the new container we have created for GA4. Follow the step-by-step instructions in our Google Tag Manager article to do this.

Then, back in Google Analytics:

4. Tweak your GA4 account setup so that it is optimised for the Ticketsolve integration. Follow the step-by-step instructions in our Google Analytics 4 article to do this.

Lastly, if you need to track on your own website as well as your Ticketsolve site:

5. Follow the step-by-step instructions in our article on tracking GA4 on your own website to create a new GA4 tag in your GTM container.
