In this article, we will go through the setup of a variety of popular discounts. There are many different variations of discounts that can be created on Ticketsolve, once you get the hang of these popular ones you will be able to tweak them to create your own custom discounts. We are going to look at creating a two-for-one offer, bundle discounts, group discounts, and how to offer percentage and amount off discounts.
Creating a Discount
First, we need to setup the discount before we add in the rules.
Go to Manage > Discounts.
Click on Add New+
1. Enter a distinctive name for your offer, such as 'August Promotion' or '2 for 1'.
2. Add a Description (optional).
3. Turn the Active discount? toggle to on (blue) to make it active.
4. Select the Start date for your promotion.
5. Select the End date for your promotion.
6. Add the Priority number (optional).
- Only one promotion code can be used in a transaction and the offer with the highest Priority will apply. So, if you have multiple Discounts available and/or more than one Discount is applicable they are applied in priority order (descending from 99).
7. If you have multiple subdomains make sure to add a Tag with the relevant subdomain to the Tags box here otherwise the discount will not work. This is required for both Box Office and Online.
8. Click the Save New button.
Important
Discounts & Booking Charges/Fees
Discounts cannot be set up to remove or discount any Booking Charges or Fees. Any Discount rules will only apply to tickets - so percentage or amount offs will discount the ticket price, but charges and fees will remain.
Now let's look at creating the most popular discounts.
Two for One Discount
A really simple and effective promotion, who doesn't love a 2 for 1 offer!
We want to set that when a customer buys two tickets for a show they get 50% off, meaning they only pay for one ticket.
Once you have created the discount details click the Rules tab.
Select the +Add New button beside When customer..
1. Select Buys exactly and enter 2.
2. In the drop-down choose tickets for.
3. Select the Show or Event to apply this offer to.
4. Here you can choose any price, a specific price or apply the offer to just one prices with tag. For example if all your Full Price tickets have the tag 'full' and you only want the 2 for 1 to apply to Full Price tickets, you could add that here.
Now click +Add New in the Customer gets.. section. We want to make sure that the rules here match the When customer.. section.
5. Choose Exactly.
6. Enter 2 and in the drop-down select tickets for.
7. Again copying the selection in When customer.., select the Show or Event to apply this offer to.
8. Again copying the selection in When customer..., select any price, a specific price or prices with tag.
9. Here we add in the discount, for a 2 for 1 offer we need to apply with percent off 50%.
10. Select the limit to be any number of times.
Important
Discount Limits only work when a Discount is set up to require a promotion code in the 'When customer..' rules and should only be used when a unique code is being given to each customer.
Ticketsolve Tip
You can at this point add another condition to the When customer.. rule, like adding a promo code in order for customers to qualify for the 2 for 1 discount. To find out more see Generating, Using and Reporting on Promo Codes
Bundle Discounts
A Bundle Discount is when you want to offer a discount to customers who purchase tickets at the same time for a specific number of unique Show or Events. In this example, we are going to give 10% off to customers who buy a ticket for each of 3 unique Shows.
Important
This requires a Tag to be added to the Shows that the Bundle Discount is to be applied to. The same unique Tag should be applied to all the Shows involved. In this example, we will use the tag 'bundle'.
Once you have created the discount details as per the steps above click the Rules tab.
Select the +Add New button beside When customer..
1. Select Buys exactly and enter 3 (or how ever many shows are in the bundle).
2. In the drop-down choose unique shows.
3. Select shows with tag and select 'bundle' from your list of Show Tags.
4. Choose any price, a specific price or apply the offer to just one prices with tag.
Now click +Add New in the Customer gets.. section. We want to make sure that the rules here match the When customer.. section.
5. Choose Exactly for the access.
6. Enter 3 (or how ever many shows are in your bundle), and in the drop-down select unique shows.
7. Select shows with tag and select 'bundle'from your list of Show Tags.
8. Choose any price, a specific price or apply the offer to just one prices with tag.
9. Here we add in the discount, select with percentage off and 10%.
10. Select the limit to be any number of times.
Group Discounts
This section will show you how to set up a discount so that when a customer buys more than a certain number of tickets for a Show(s) or Event(s) - or any Show across your account - they can receive a discount. This is different to the Bundle Discount above because here the customer doesn't need to buy for X number of unique Shows, but they do need to buy X number of tickets across a Show or several Shows.
In this example we are going to give customers 10% off when they buy at least 10 tickets across a range of Shows.
Important
This requires a Tag to be added to the Shows that the group discount is to be applied to. The same unique Tag should be applied to all the shows involved. In this example we are using the tag 'bulk'.
Once you have created the discount details as per the steps at the start of this article, click the Rules tab.
Select the +Add New button beside When customer..
1. Select Buys at least and enter 10 (or how ever many tickets you want to apply for a group discount).
2. In the drop-down choose tickets for.
3. Select shows with tag and select the tag you have added to your events, e.g. 'bulk'.
4. Choose any price, a specific price or apply the offer to just one prices with tag.
Now click +Add New in the Customer gets.. section. We want to make sure that the rules here match the When customer.. section.
5. Choose All for the access.
6. Select tickets for.
7. Select shows with tag and select 'bulk'.
8. Choose any price, a specific price or apply the offer to just one prices with tag.
9. Here we add in the discount, select with percentage off and 10%.
10. Select the limit:
- If we want the group discount to apply across multiple shows (i.e. a customer buys 5 tickets for one tagged show, and 5 tickets for another tagged show, and we want them to receive the 10 ticket group discount) leave the Limit at any number of times.
- However if we want the group discount to only kick in when a customers buy 10 tickets for the same show, not spread across shows, we set the Limit to with show group limit and select the number of tickets required to be added for each show. So in this example, we would use with show group limit of 10.
Percentage & Amount Off Discounts with Promotion Code
The percentage discount has been covered in the above examples so in this section we'll look at giving an 'amount' off of a ticket with a promotion code.
This example is a very simple way of giving customer a £5/€5 off of any ticket price when using a promotion code, and allowing them to use the code as many times as they want.
Once you have created the discount name, click the Rules tab.
Select the +Add New button beside When customer..
1. Select Use promotion code from the drop-down.
Now click +Add New in the Customer gets.. section.
2. Select All for the Access.
3. Choose tickets for.
4. Select any show (you can also choose shows with tag or set events).
5. Pricing can be any price, a specific price or apply the offer to just one prices with tag.
6. Here we add in the discount we want to apply per ticket. Choose with amount off and then enter the value, e.g. 5 for €5 off per ticket.
7. Select any number of times.
We now need to create the promo code that customers will use to qualify for the discount.
1. Click on the Promotion codes tab.
2. Select +Add new promo code.
3. You can manually enter a code or select the Generate codes tab to autogenerate numerous unique codes. Codes are not case sensitive.
4. Click Save.
Your promotion code discount is now set up!
Important
Discount and Purchase Limits: Discount and Purchase limits are generally only used when individual customers are being given their own unique promotion code, or for discounts linked to Benefit Products, because the limits apply per promotion code. If you're looking to set a Discount or Purchase Limit but giving the same promotion code to all customers, get in touch with the Ticketsolve Support team so we can give you a hand.
Amending discounts
If we need to change the rules of a Discount, we can do so easily.
1. Go into Manage > Discounts and select your Discount.
2. Click into the Rules tab.
3. In the rule that needs changing click the 3 dots (additional options) icon and we will be given the option to edit or delete our existing rule in the pop-up.
4. Click Save in the pop-up and the new rule will be active.
