At Ticketsolve, we've integrated fully with Mailchimp to ensure a seamless connection that not only sends over customer information upon email signup but also tracks all purchases. This e-commerce integration lets you see the effectiveness of each campaign by observing the revenue it generates. If you're having trouble seeing this data, this guide is here to get you back on track.
How Mailchimp Campaigns are tracked
Ticketsolve monitors Mailchimp campaigns through Mailchimp’s own ecommerce tracking links. When you utilise e-commerce tracking in Mailchimp, it appends tracking IDs to the URLs like this: www.yourtheatre.com/shows/?mc_cid=4385143ad6&mc_eid=e4a9575dd6.
The mc_cid is your campaign ID and mc_eid is the unique Mailchimp ID associated with the recipient's email address.
Direct Ticketsolve links in your emails (yourtheatre.ticketsolve.com/shows) ensure flawless tracking, but there might be issues if the links go through your own website (yourtheatre.com/shows) before redirecting to Ticketsolve. When the customer lands on your website from the email campaign, the tracking ID will appear in the address bar. When the customer then clicks on a Book Now button and gets transferred over to the Ticketsolve pages the ID’s should be sent as well. This happens due to a cross-domain tag in Google Tag Manager (GTM) that picks up Mailchimp tracking IDs and passes them to Ticketsolve.
How to fix Mailchimp revenue tracking
1. Check Google Tag Manager: Ensure GTM is installed on both your website and the Ticketsolve platform, using the same GTM container.
2. Update GTM Container: Verify that your GTM container is the latest version by comparing the ‘TS version number’ found in the GTM variables to the latest one mentioned in the GTM setup help article. If it’s outdated, update it and enable the Mailchimp cross-domain tracking tag.
3. Integration Validation: With everything correctly set up, Ticketsolve should now be able to capture the Mailchimp tracking IDs from your website and transfer them successfully.
How to check if Mailchimp is tracking revenue
1. To check if Mailchimp is tracking revenue, start by sending a test email to yourself. Open this email and click on the call-to-action (CTA) link. This will take you to a specific webpage, often your own site. Here, look for a Mailchimp tracking ID in the URL.
2. Next, find the book now CTA where customers will be sent through to Ticketsolve. Right-click the "Book Now" button and copy the link. Open a new browser tab and paste this link to verify it leads to the Ticketsolve events page. Also, make sure to check if the Mailchimp tracking IDs are included in this URL. If they are, then the tracking is functioning correctly.
You can also complete a purchase to confirm that the tracking is working. After completing an order, head back into the Mailchimp report for that test email to see if you can see any revenue tracking.
