In this article, we will look at a great way to see how one year's sales compare with sales of a similar type of show from a previous year by creating a comparison report exploring week-by-week sales. This report is best run on shows that go on sale at roughly the same time each year, for example, the annual panto, or summer show, which is likely to go on sale at the same time every year and is run on capacity % of tickets sold (rather than ticket quantity or revenue) as it is the only way to fairly get a week by week comparison of sales.
Setting up the comparative report
To build this comparative report, you'll want to build a custom Your Report.
1. First, go to Reports > Your Reports and click Add New report.
2. Name your report.
3. Add to a folder.
4. Choose Line Item Facts for the report type.
5. Add an optional description.
6. Click Save.
Adding filters
You'll now want to add in a filter to select the shows that you want to report on...
1. Click Add New to add a new Filter.
2. Search for saw shows.
3. Include the shows you want to report on (we'd recommend only selecting two or three).
4. Click Save.
Viewing the week by week sales comparison
1. In Reporting Views, select the Date view.
2. Go to the Purchased weeks before tab and here you will see a side-by comparison of sales based on the weeks before the event, in terms of the capacity % of tickets that have sold.
From here, you can use this data to understand how sales compared across the shows, learning how far in advance of the events customers were purchasing and how the revenue was spread out across the booking period.
