Overview

This setting determines how many minutes a ticket can be kept in the cart before being reaped (removed). As standard, this is set to 20.

This setting only applies online.
For busy accounts or onsales, this "templock time minutes" setting should be reduced to 10 or 15. There should be sufficient time for customers to complete the booking process, but a short enough time to reduce the number of tickets sitting in carts and not being purchased (slowing down the onsale, and adding strain to the server).
On accounts using PayPal as a payment option, a higher templock time can reduce the number of PayPal errors.
