Scanning Hardware Options

In this article, we'll walk through the different hardware available for scanning with the Ticketsolve Check-in App. For a complete walkthrough guide of how to use the Check-in App, you can visit our guide to Scanning with Ticketsolve's Check-in App.

The Ticketsolve Check-in App can be used to scan tickets using one of three setups:

  • A mobile and its camera
  • A handheld scanner paired with a mobile
  • A 2-in-1 scanner with an integrated computer/mobile

Mobiles

We recommend reviewing the latest smartphones to ensure you get a device that will last and can perform well with frequent use. Here are some things to bear in mind if scanning with a mobile:

  • Camera quality – can it scan well in dark areas?
  • Operating system – does it have the latest version of Android or iOS (and can it be updated in the future?)
  • Specification – can it cope with constant camera use and several apps running simultaneously?
  • Battery – can it run for as long as you require?

Moto smartphones are a familiar and affordable option. Models to consider (as of Oct 2025) include:

  • Moto G56 (£200/€240) - released May 2025

 Ticketsolve Tip

The Checkin App is optimised to work on Android devices with the latest version of the Chrome browser app.

Handheld scanner paired with a mobile

There are many small handheld scanners that pair with mobiles via Bluetooth and/or USB. Some even allow you to mount your mobile onto the scanner for convenience.

There are several options for handheld scanners. Here are some things to bear in mind:

  • Speed – how fast can it scan?
  • Capability – can it scan QR codes and bar codes?
  • Battery – can it run for as long as you require?
  • Connectivity – does it connect via Bluetooth and/or USB?

Two options to consider (as of Oct 2025) include:

2-in-1 scanner

2-in-1 scanners are custom-built for scanning; however, they are often more costly because they have an inbuilt Android system and integrated cameras and scanners. While they are purpose-built for scanning, here are some things to bear in mind:

  • Operating system – does it have the latest version of Android (and can be updated in the future?)
  • Specification – can it cope with constant camera use and several apps running simultaneously?
  • Battery – can it run for as long as you require?

There are several 2-in-1 scanners out there, but a few models to consider (as of Oct 2025) include:
